Description

This 2-day, 16-hour, Hazmat Technician Course will offer hands-on simulated facility and transportation incidents. The hazardous materials technician course shall describe the response objectives for each incident and the steps for determining response objectives (defensive, offensive, non-intervention) given an analysis of a hazardous materials incident. Then, the hazardous materials technician shall identify the possible action options (defensive, offensive, and nonintervention) by response objective for each incident, including safety considerations. The hazardous materials technician course will cover all topics that are included in the HAZWOPER Operations level course.

Course Objectives

Given at least two (2) simulated hazardous materials incidents, a facility incident and a transportation incident, the technician trainee shall:
• Describe the response objectives for each incident.
• Describe the steps for determining response objectives when given an analysis of an incident.
• Identify the possible action options by response objective for each incident, including safety considerations.

Target Audience

This course is required and essential for employees involved in either hazardous material cleanup or emergency response operations.
